COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

As a creative with ideas that know not the concept of sleep, Maggie has a series of ongoing projects.

Duo Kalura

Duo Kalura is a dynamic classical music duo formed by soprano Maggie Vaz Neto and pianist Antonio Morabito. Their shared Mediterranean heritage – Maggie from Portugal and Antonio from Italy – brought them together in London, where a deep musical connection blossomed into both a professional collaboration and a lasting friendship.

Blending their individual musical experiences, Duo Kalura creates an evocative sound that resonates with warmth and passion. Their performances are marked by a unique chemistry, rooted in the rich traditions of their respective countries, yet exploring diverse classical repertoires. The duo is driven by a commitment to bringing classical music to wider audiences, fostering an appreciation for its beauty, and creating meaningful connections through their performances.

In the summer of 2024, Antonio organized a concert featuring Puccini's repertoire, connecting the G. Rechichi Orchestra from Calabria, his hometown, with Maggie. This year, Maggie will take the lead in organizing a concert that will bring the duo to northern Portugal, sharing classical music in regions where it is less accessible.

Through their performances, Duo Kalura aspires to create a bridge between cultures, bringing people together through the universal language of music.

Coffee and Improv Ensemble

Coffee and Improv is a recently created musical ensemble that blends classical music with improvisation, offering a unique concert experience. Their performances intertwine written compositions, improvised moments and live enactments of dramatic text excerpts. This is an immersive format that allows the audience to become a part of the evolving experience. They are currently developing their second programme and hoping to take it to as many places as possible. Keep an eye out!

It is formed by two violinists, Zoe Hodi and Ester Stalberg, and soprano, Maggie Vaz Neto.

New Contemporalis Ensemble

New Contemporalis is a musical group founded by Maggie and Margarida Gonçalves, formed by soprano, violin, clarinet and accordeon.

Its debut concert happened in Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal, but the New Contemporalis has since travelled to London for a variety of concerts!

The New Contemporalis Ensemble comes from the shared values of these two colleagues and friends, who intend to pursue the exploration and expansion of the world of contemporary classical music. In other words, both of them believe that classical music tends to focus on the big masters of the past. Nevertheless, it is important to create spaces to promote contemporary composers, writing for the audiences of today. The aim is to bring contemporary music to people who don’t usually have access to it, creating a concert that engages the audience through extra-musical elements. These collaborative elements include immersive acting techniques, dancing and live painting.

In conclusion, the New Contemporalis Ensemble are looking to bring contemporary classical music to new audiences that don’t necessarily have previous knowledge of this genre, trying to fight the stereotypes that so often create distance from it.

Dame Ethel Smyth - REBEL

A music theatre piece featuring the influential composer from the 19th century.

Composed by Chloe Knibbs with libretto written by Teresa Howard, the first scene of the opera was first recorded in May 2024, with Maggie and Georgia Morse.

The opera was presented in the Dame Ethel Smyth Symposium 2024 and is in the process of applying for funding, so that it can be written in its entirety and later performed widely across the UK and internationally.
