About Maggie

Maggie Vaz Neto is a Portuguese soprano from Santa Maria da Feira based in London, England. She is in love with contemporary and modern music, but still saves a special place in her heart for Romantic opera.

She performs a wide range of repertoire, as a solo performer, a choral scholar, a cantor and a member of the Philharmonia Chorus and of the New London Chamber Choir. Maggie is currently a choral scholar a Christ Church, East Sheen, in Richmond. She is also the cantor in St Mary of the Angels Church, in Bayswater.

Maggie also gives private singing lessons.

Maggie is an alumna from the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied under the tutelage of Nuccia Focile and graduated with First Class Honours. She takes singing lessons with Nuccia Focile and Claire Booth.

With the Philharmonia Chorus, she has performed in the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, Bold Tendencies and St James’s Church, in Sussex Gardens, among other places.

Maggie regularly collaborates with composers. Recently, she has co-founded the new music focused New Contemporalis Ensemble with the composer Margarida Gonçalves. This ensemble aims to collaborate with other musicians and artists in search of creating concerts that aim to be approachable experiences of new music for first-time audiences, while keeping the essence and intensity in the music.

In opera, she has recently created the title role in Margarida Gonçalves’s “The Acts of Brízida Vaz.”, in this year’s edition of the Tête-à-tête Contemporary Opera Festival, in the Cockpit Theatre.
